California Election Results 2010 – Democrat Jerry Brown got his old job back and will be replacing Arnold Schwarzenegger as California governor, after Tuesday’s elections, where Barack Obama’s party was defeated nationally by the Republicans.
The left lost control of the House of Representatives in the crucial midterm elections, but in the Golden State, it won the Governorship and a key Senate seat with incumbent Barbara Boxer.
Meanwhile, Republicans suffered a double blow in California. Two rich women, former CEO of auction site eBay, Meg Whitman and former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina, lost despite investing their own money in their campaigns for governor and senator, respectively.
Brown won with 52% of the vote against his opponent Republican Meg Whitman, who won 43%, after 68% of the votes were counted.
Whitman, who had spent more than $ 160 million of her personal fortune into her campaign for governor, conceded defeat saying: “Tonight has not been as we expected.”
Brown, now California’s attorney general, was governor between 1975 and 1985. He first took office as the youngest since 1850 at age 36, but this time on as the oldest to get the job, aged 72, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Obama Is Not Muslim Says White House – The White House felt compelled to reaffirm Thursday that Barack Obama was a Christian and prayed every day, apparently eager to reassure Americans about the religion of their president, in the context of the controversy over a proposed mosque near the site of the September 11 2001 attacks in New York.
The spokesman of the Presidency, Bill Burton, said a few hours after the release of a Pew Research Center survey revealing that nearly one fifth of respondents (18% think Obama is Muslim. They were only 11% in March 2009. A third of Americans (34%) believe that the head of state is a Christian, against nearly half (48%) last year. And 43% do not know what is his religion.
Bill Burton has done an update: “The president is obviously a Christian. He prays every day,” and Americans are more concerned about the economy or the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Google has announced that China has renewed its license for “Internet Content Provider.” The news was announced very quietly, by an update of two lines on the post dating from last week where the company explained why it was terminating the automatic redirection of Internet users in China to its Hong Kong engine.
Google had indeed decided to show its visitors from China, a page suggesting to go to google.com/hk site based in Hong Kong where search results are not censored.
The result was nearly identical, but the automatic redirection was technically over, thereby complying with the letter (if not the spirit) of the Chinese government’s requests.
This quick scheme was presented by the company as a concession to the authorities to keep its permission to do business in China.
It seems this symbolic gesture was enough to convince Chinese officials since Google controversial search results, show no change. The Chinese had published a paper in early June, clearly intended to foreigners since it was in English, where they explained the many benefits of censorship for freedom of expression.
